Making memories at Living Crafts

Make the most of your day

Entry to our Festival of Living Crafts, tickets includes access to the extensive parkland of Hatfield House, beautiful woodland walks, and the Elizabeth Oak.

There will be a free shuttle running between the showground and the Stable Yard and the famous West Garden of the Old Palace including the Knot Garden. The Old Palace was the childhood home of Queen Elizabeth I.

Your group will be able to join one of the hourly guided tours of the gardens with either a horticultural or historical focus. These run on the hour from 11am to 3pm and there is no need to book.

UPDATE: The garden tours will end in the Victorian Kitchen of Hatfield House, where there will be a replica of the Rainbow portrait of Queen Elizabeth I, the original is currently being restored. The portrait is the perhaps the most colourful Tudor portrait, full of inventive iconography and so-called because Elizabeth holds a rainbow, a symbol of peace. A guide from the house will be available to talk about the painting.

Enhance your day

Group members can book to take part in one of a wide variety of fascinating and fun workshops with our expert tutors.

There are dozens of workshops to choose from, including watercolour painting in the Art Centre, jewellery making in the Workshop Pavilion and stone carving on the Showground.

The full list of workshops will be published on the website nearer the show dates; in the meantime the list of workshops that ran in 2023 are shown here.

There are usually some places available to book on the day but we do advise booking in advance to avoid disappointment.
