In 2022 we had more workshops than ever - bringing you an exciting choice of activities.

It was a fantastic opportunity to work with experienced and skilled tutors who guided visitors with expert hints and tips - visitors took home wonderful creations.

You too can challenge yourself to learn new skills, practice existing ones or simply have some fun with friends and family. We have activities for all ages. See below for a list of the workshops we ran in 2022.

Papershades

Papershades

Tutor: Ros Freeborn

Make a beautiful paper lampshade designed entirely by you. Led by paper collage artist Rosalind Freeborn, you’ll sit down at a large table with a huge choice of paper to choose from. You’ll make a design on one piece of A4 card which Ros will print onto special Papershades paper ready for assembly...and, voila, you will have created a fabulous lampshade!

Marbling

Marble your own Silk Scarf

Tutor: Craig Joubert

Marbling onto a silk scarf with one-to-one marbling tuition using traditional rakes.

Time: 30 mins

Calligraphy

Modern Calligraphy

Tutor: Jane Lappage

This is a have-a-go session teaching you the basics of modern calligraphy. You will script your name in the "laurel wreath" design using metallic paint with nib and holder provided.

Sterling Silver Wave Ring & Infinity Knot Ring

Tutor: Emma Goodwin & Sally Andrews

You'll have the opportunity to make a sterling silver wave ring and a sterling silver knot ring using some essential jewellery tools and skills. Recommended for intermediate ability and 14 years and older.

Time: 1.5 hours

Enamelling

Enamelling

Tutor: Teresa Kent

Try the ancient art of vitreous enamelling by applying layers of glass enamel powder on to a copper pendant (cord necklace included) or keyring. It will be fired for you during the session, ready for you to take home.

Paint a cheerful summer landscape using wet-on-wet, wet-on-dry and impasto medium techniques to create a beautiful painting with 3D texture. Suitable for 16 years and older.

Soap Making

Soap Making

Melt and pour soap-making. Make three individual soaps with different embellishments and designs. Learn about how to add fragrance and colour, different decorative techniques, effects and more. Fragrances are allergen free.

Stone Carving

Experience the joy of shaping stone, carving stone and carving letters using simple basic sculptural techniques in soft limestone.

Learn the ancient art of batik, a technique of wax resist dyeing. A colourful and creative experience, applying wax, fabric marking and colour blending to make a beautiful scarf.

Come and join us to make 12 delicious heart shaped chocolates. You will discover how to pipe ganache, use transfer sheets, handle chocolate and so much more. Please note, that this workshop is aimed at adults or children 11+ that are capable without adult assistance!

Complete an oil painting in one sitting. All equipment is provided and you will be given professional step-by-step tuition. Just bring yourself, the desire to paint and a smile for an informative and fun hour. You can then take your masterpiece home to hang proudly on your wall. 12 years and older.

Introduction to Zentangle Mindful Drawing

Tutor: Mary Dewick & Lucy Farran

Enjoy a relaxing and easy way of creating a beautiful image using a series of dots, lines, curves and orbs. A mindful 60 minutes as you create and complete a 9 x 9 cm piece of art. Everything is possible, one stroke at a time.

Take home a beautiful sunset picture painted using wet-on-wet techniques in warm colours. No pencil sketching is required and you will be shown how to paint using easy to master methods. Suitable for 16 years and older.

Candle Making

An uplifting candle making experience where you will learn the basics including wicking, temperatures and qualities. You will make a soy wax candle in a decorative ceramic bowl with a cotton linen wick and embellishments such as precious stones and botanicals, filled with fragrance and meaning. A beautiful and decorative keepsake for your home.

Graining marbling

Tutor: Dave Pullin

The imitation of wood and marble has been around for thousands of years dating back to the ancient Egyptians. The workshop will demonstrate these skills and give you the opportunity to practice and produce painted panels.

Iridescent Watercolour 2

Iridescent Watercolour

Paint a magical wood in cherry blossom. You will be shown how to use iridescent watercolours to produce a colour changing picture, painted with palette knives adding an additional dimension to your work. Suitable for 16 years and older.

You will have the opportunity to make a Sterling Silver open cuff bangle using some essential jewellery tools and skills which include texturing and letter stamping. Recommended for intermediate ability and 14 years and older.

Choose from a gorgeous collection of pliable paper transfers to create a touchstone. Add your message of love, commemoration, joy or wisdom. Step by step guidance will enable you achieve all this and if you are a lover of bling you can embellish your touchstone with pearl and sparkle.

Weave a willow bird. Create your own unique version of a pheasant or peacock for the garden using a mixture of willow - willow legs will be provided.

Drop-in ‘make and take’ feltmaking workshops each morning along with demonstrations and displays of felt.

Make a Mosaic

An introduction to mosaics in which you will make a coaster or letter. Working to a 'pixelated' grid you will only be using whole tiles. No tile cutting or grouting is required making the activity suitable for any age from four upwards. You can take your finished masterpiece away at the end of the day.

Drop-in Chocolate Workshops

Children's drop-in, chocolate making workshops. Come along and have some creative fun designing your own Belgium chocolate dinosaurs, hearts, cupcakes and more. It takes 5 minutes to create a masterpiece to take home to eat! (Min weight 100g). £4.50
