Meet the Maker: Rebecca Connolly

We are excited to announce that master Woven Textile Designer and Handweaver Rebecca Connolly will be at Living Crafts Cirencester Park for our debut year over the late May bank holiday weekend of 29th - 30th May.

Rebecca is lucky enough to live in the stunning surrounds of the Cotswolds, an important centre for the Arts and Crafts Movement and our location for our newest and first festival of 2021.

Rebecca designs woven textiles and hand-weaves cloth. Her designs can be woven in a range of weights; for rugs, upholstery cloth, soft-furnishing or for accessories such as scarves. These can be unique hand-woven pieces, collections for exhibition or designs for commercial production in quantity.

“My Welsh heritage often inspires my work, in colour, raw material and aesthetic; I often design with the traditional Welsh two layer ‘double-cloth’ weave structure. The technique of ‘Colour and Weave’ which produces larger patterns are another favourite.” states Rebecca

Rebecca is passionate about using wool especially yarns made from British sheep breeds in black, grey and brown as well as white, supplemented with colour from natural plant dyes over chemical dyes whenever practicable.

She also teaches weaving and natural dyeing to students with diverse levels of experience; from undergraduates to children, in groups or working one to one. Including workshops and demonstrations for many local Art, Craft and Heritage organisations.

“I get such satisfaction from introducing weaving to beginners and facilitating their explorations as they create cloth, art or something crazy!" Rebecca Connolly
