Emerging Designer Finalists
1. James Dougall - Silversmith James Dougall graduated from Buckingham New University in May 2009. James work exemplifies classic silversmithing with a fresh and unusual approach to design that seeks to redefine the way silver is viewed and used. He specialises in combining fine materials such as wood and leather with hand made silver and gold items.
2. Jenna McDonald - Spun Aluminium Bowls Jenna's vibrant coloured anodised aluminium tableware is designed and partly created in her small independent workshop in Perth. After graduating in 2009 from the University of Dundee, Jenna has continued spinning and handraising aluminium, a material she loves due to its versatile qualities and which enables her to indulge her passion for colour.
3. Nadine Angela - Contemporary Blacksmith Nadine graduated from the acclaimed Artist Blacksmithing course at Hereford College of Arts in 2009. Nadine combines traditional techniques with contemporary design ideas to produce works with an individual and often unique character.
4. Adam Hussain - Glass Since Adam completed his degree in Contemporary Crafts at Coventry University, he has sold his individual and distinctive pieces under his trading name of Infini Glass Ltd. Adam is interested in developing techniques which get more depth and texture into his glass art which can be a slow but rewarding process.
5. Becca Williams - Silver & Resin Jewellery Becca produces contemporary jewellery and silverware with a seaside theme with an emphasis on colour, texture and originality. Her refreshing new 'Tenby' range highlights her originality and flair for design and marketing.
6. Gillian Royal - Felt Vessels Gillian graduated from Coventry University after completing the BA Applied Arts course. Gillian's unique felt vessels and felt products are handcrafted from 100% wool and have a contemporary look with contrasting colours or subtle shading. Gillian sells her work under the name of 'Pantoufles'.
7. Patrick Schroeter - Furniture Patrick trained with the Villiers Brothers in Essex after completing his degree, before setting up his own business 'Pigmillion'. A key feature of Patrick's contemporary furniture is the integration of wood and metal elements. His interest in engineering and mechanisms are often incorporated into his work, many of which are one off pieces.
8. Annie Cracknell - Jewellery Annie graduated from the School of Jewellery at Birmingham City University in 2008. She likes to combine linear aesthetics with organic forms and uses fine wires and tubes to achieve striking structural results. Her most recent range, explores mathematical proportions!
9. Gail Trezise - Textural Ceramics Every ceramic piece that Gail produces is unique as the mould, which she cuts and stitches together from cellulose sponge, is destroyed! She completes each piece, inspired by nature, by using under glaze colours and finishes off with a satin or matt glaze. |
